GRISI SIKNIS
PREMIERE: may 2023 at Wawerskie Centrum Kultury
In my solo GRISI SIKNIS I document the story of a woman who goes through a stage of transformation. I perform the so-called Polish „folk disease”, i.e. the conflict between the moral norms of the community and the awakening sexuality. With reference to the Polish socio-political background, I allow myself to discover unexplored contextual processes in the body that transform the meaning and logic of cultural idioms of suffering at the individual level of bodily experience. I perform on complex forms of structural inequality and gender-based violence. I invite the viewer to a specific experience of movement, dance, which is energy and goes beyond the aspect related to the physicality of the body. Performance takes place on the body, which is a space for recording events in constantly multiplying breath, sound and vibration. On the one hand, the body is an image, on the other hand, it somatizes its experience of memory – it stages the dream from the memory of the experience.
For Grisi Siknis performance I invited a witness in hands of BEATA BIEŃKOWSKA. Through her photographs she clearly reveals to the viewer what Grisi Siknis feels like for the body and mind.
